Cupid still rings true for 21M Pinoys




The idea of Cupid inspiring love among couples remains alive as 40 percent of adult Filipinos or 21 million of the Philippine population still believe in the Roman god of love, a Social Weather Stations survey result said Wednesday.


The SWS Fourth Quarter 2007 survey disclosed that Visayas registered the highest number of Filipinos (49 percent) who said they still believe in Cupid, followed by 47 percent in Metro Manila and 36 percent each in Balance of Luzon and Mindanao.

Belief in Cupid was relatively higher among class E (46 percent), compared to class D (39 percent) and class ABC (36 percent).

Women (41 percent) said Cupid still rings true to them. The females slightly edged the men who registered 40 percent.

The survey, conducted from November 30 to December 3, 2007, also disclosed that the belief in Cupid is higher among those with at most some high school education (43%), some college education (41%) and at least a college degree (40%), compared to those with at most some elementary education (33%).

It was also found out that half of those with live-in partners believe in Cupid than those who are married, single or never been married.

Meanwhile, the survey also found out that over four out of five (85 percent) of those who believe in Cupid said they “have already been struck by his arrow.”
